Markus Scott | Chief Guard Dog
Markus is the President of National Video Monitoring, a video monitoring provider based in Atlanta, GA and the Managing Partner of Lighthouse Equity Partners, a security-focused investment firm he founded in 2013. Prior to the security industry, Markus worked as a middle-market private equity investor where he sat on the boards of MW Industries, the country’s largest provider of customized spring solutions, and Turning Technologies, an education technology company. Markus began his career as a CPA, for Ernst & Young and PwC working as a strategy and M&A consultant on over 20 security businesses including Checkpoint and Checkfree Corporation. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, as well as a Masters in Accounting from the University of Virginia and Bachelors in Finance from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Florida Gators football team. He resides in Atlanta with his wife Lauren and two children, Ava and AJ.
David Dodson | Advisory Board
After graduating from Stanford University in 1983, and then the Graduate School of Business in 1987, David Dodson purchased and led Smith Alarm Systems, the largest provider of security alarm services in Greater Dallas at that time. After a successful integration with Monitronics, he subsequently took over and led several other companies, including an auto parts retailer and an environmental services firm. During his career, Mr. Dodson has been an active investor in numerous start-ups and middle market companies as well as served as a recurring professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at Stanford. He is currently on the board of U.S. Fund for UNICEF (Regional), Project Healthy Children, Wind River Environmental, Carillon Assisted Living, and National Video Monitoring.
Rene LaJous | Advisory Board
Mr. Lajous is a Principal with The Cambria Group, a growth-equity focused investment firm with over 100 investments. Prior to joining Cambria, Mr. Lajous was a consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, a boutique management consulting firm, working in Dallas, Texas and Buenos Aires, Argentina. At BCG, he advised clients in the transportation, energy and telecommunications industries on a variety of issues ranging from strategy and operations to merger and acquisition activity and due diligence. Earlier, Mr. Lajous focused on logistics and operations in the consumer packaged goods industries, working for Procter & Gamble in Canada and Mexico, as well as Pillsbury in Canada.
Mr. Lajous earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto, earning the W.S. Wilson Medal for academic excellence. He subsequently received an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
Scott Peterson | Advisory Board
Scott Peterson has extensive experience in financial management in high-growth private equity backed organizations with a concentration in the security/recurring revenue space. In addition to his role with National Video Monitoring, Mr. Peterson currently serves as the CFO of Alarm Capital Alliance, a leading provider of traditional security alarm services currently serving over 250,000 customers. He is a strategic and profit-oriented executive with expertise in all aspects of finance from equity funding to operations. Scott was also recently recognized by Philadelphia SmartCEO with the 2015 Executive Management Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities in the field.
Mr. Peterson also co-founded U.S. Alarm Holdings, LLC where he oversaw revenue growth from $0 to $2.1 million in 18 months. He also has made influential achievements at other companies such as PS Energy Group, Inc., Integrated Excellence, LLC, Wind River Environmental, and Smith Alarm Systems, Inc., using his skills in modernizing operations to increase profit and growth.
Mr. Peterson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Colorado State University.
Gerald Risk | Advisory Board
Gerald is Vice-Chairman of Asurion, the world’s largest provider of technology protection services, partnering with the world’s top companies and brands to serve over 200 million customers globally. Prior to serving as Vice-Chairman, Gerald served as Asurion’s President from 2009 to 2013 and Asurion’s Chief Financial Officer for the 10 years prior to that. Gerald is an active investor and mentor of entrepreneurial leaders in the for-profit and non-profit worlds. In this capacity, Mr. Risk currently serves on the Board of Directors of Carillon Assisted Living (provider of assisted living services in the Southeast), HealthCPA (provider of medical expense management services for consumers), and QMC Telecom (cell tower operator in Brazil). Prior to joining Asurion, Gerald worked as an investment banker with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in San Francisco, Hong Kong and New York. Mr. Risk has also worked for Hambrecht and Quist and the private investment arm of Toronto Dominion Capital. Mr. Risk holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar and where he served as a case writer for Jack McDonald, the Stanford Investors Professor of Finance. Mr. Risk also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce with honors from Queen’s University in Canada where he was on the Dean’s List. Mr. Risk lives in the Bay Area with his wife and two sons.
